World Leprosy Day was observed on 30 January 2026 at Narayan Nursing College, conducted at Narayan Medical College and Hospital, Jamuhar, Rohtas, with the primary objective of creating awareness about leprosy, reducing social stigma, and promoting early detection and timely treatment.
The program comprised poster presentations, pamphlet distribution, and health education sessions, which were actively carried out by the B.Sc. Nursing 3rd Semester and GNM 2nd Year students. The students participated with great enthusiasm and demonstrated a commendable sense of social responsibility by educating patients, attendants, and the general public about the causes, signs and symptoms, prevention, and treatment of leprosy, emphasizing that leprosy is a curable disease and that early treatment can prevent disability.
The program was conducted under the supervision of Dr. K. Latha, Dean-cum-Principal, and the guidance of Prof. Dr. Shaveta Sharma, Vice Principal. Overall coordination was carried out by Dr. P. Ponnarsi, HOD, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing (MSN), along with Mr. R. Srinivasan. The event was successfully organized by Mr. Vikrant Kumar, Mr. Shivanshu Kumar, Ms. Mamta Kumari, and Ms. Monika Phillips.
The celebration concluded successfully with positive feedback from the beneficiaries. The program effectively enhanced awareness, encouraged early health-seeking behavior, and reinforced the vital role of nursing students in community health promotion.
